📜 Basics of Vedic Panchangam

Panchangam literally means “Five Limbs” (Pancha = 5, Anga = Limbs). It is humanity's oldest astronomical timekeeping system, harmonizing the daily movements of the Sun and Moon with our physical stamina, mental clarity, and spiritual purpose.

🔭Cosmic Analogy & Intuition

Imagine the Sun and the Moon running around a giant 360° circular track in the sky. The Sun walks steadily, taking a full year to finish one lap. But the Moon is a sprinter—moving 13 times faster! Every time the speedy Moon pulls ahead of the Sun by about the width of your fist held at arm's length (12 degrees), that represents 1 Tithi.

Astronomical Mechanics:

A complete circle is 360°. Since each Tithi spans 12°, dividing 360° by 12° yields exactly 30 Tithis in a lunar month. 15 occur in the waxing half (Shukla Paksha) as the Moon grows brighter towards Full Moon (Pournami), and 15 occur in the waning half (Krishna Paksha) as it dims towards New Moon (Amavasya).

🕉️Spiritual & Psychological Meaning

In Vedic wisdom, the Sun represents the Soul (Atman) and life force, while the Moon represents the Mind (Manas) and emotions. As the Moon travels around the Sun, the light reflected to Earth shifts, influencing human moods, mental clarity, and focus.

Practical Astrological Rule:

Bright waxing days (Shukla Paksha) support initiating constructive ventures, education, and celebrations. Waning days (Krishna Paksha) favor inward study, meditation, detoxing, and honoring ancestors.
